Being accredited as a 'real farmers market' by Farm Retail Association means that our customers can talk directly to the people who make the products. Yesterday we asked Lovesome Oil whether they used their rapeseed oil in salad dressing instead of olive oil. Tonight we did a taste test - macerated Isle of Wight Tomatoes using Lovesome rapeseed oil Vs olive oil. The other ingredients of lemon juice, garlic, herbs and rock salt, meant both had great flavour but all the health benefits of cold pressed rapeseed so Lovesome wins. The second test was recommended by Josh, apprentice butcher of the year, of Stoneygate Farm . He suggested trying Denver steak as a more cost effective but still tender and tasty steak. We decided to have one Denver and one Sirloin to compare - taste and texture were both great, Denver being healthier without the fat but who doesn't love a bbq'd steak with fat edge? Verdict is a mix of each is ideal. And to finish, a couple of delicious tarts from Elano’s Cakes and Bakes . Just as well the market is only once a month!
