As we look forward to our Christmas market on Saturday 5th December, we want to take a moment to say thank you to a whole load of people.

Firstly, to our amazing stall holders, who ventured out on 6th June after 2 months of lockdown and who have kept the market full of local produce, providing an open air shopping experience.  Special thanks to William Ramsbottom of Just Williams who provided so much support as market manager while he was trading with us.

Adding extra safety measures to our market brought with it some cost challenges, as we operate as a not for profit community organisation, so we thank Barnard Castle Town Council for providing us hand sanitiser for use throughout the market and some disposable face coverings for customers who might have forgotten them.  We also needed to buy additional equipment, and we want to say a huge thank you for the funding we received from the Coronavirus Support Fund distributed by the National Lottery Community Fund – the grant we applied for has allowed us to provide a handwash station with running water, and clear tarps to safely divide our stalls.

As always we have relied on our hardy team who erect our stalls each month – the team come out in all weathers and we couldn’t run the market without them.  Also thanks to the Witham for hosting the market in the winter months, keeping everyone warm and dry in February and March. Extra thanks this year to the volunteers who have helped ensure distancing – Claire, Peter, James, Michael and Graham, thank you.

Thanks to the Teesdale Mercury for continuing to provide great coverage of events at the market.

And most important of all, thanks to all of our customers who have supported us throughout the whole year – we have been spurred on by your very positive comments about the market and the open air shopping experience it provides.

Looking ahead to our December market – we are expecting a full set of traders and it will be a great opportunity to buy presents and produce for the festive period, and at the same time support local small businesses.  This will be our last market in Barnard Castle until February 2021. We look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday 5th December, 9 til 2.30, and we send our thanks and best wishes for 2021 to all customers past and present.

AND THE WINNER IS..........

Congratulations to Pamela Curry who is the lucky winner of our £25 voucher to spend at tomorrow's farmers market.

With so many Christmas Fairs unable to go ahead this year our December market is a great place to shop for gifts and produce.  The Farmers Market is outside on the Cobbles from 9 til 2.30, and in Barnard Castle tomorrow there is also a Northern Crafts event inside The Witham.

Hope to see you all there
