Just Williams is owned by me, William Ramsbottom and has been trading since May 2005. I live on the edge of the North Yorkshire Dales with my wife Meg.
We did have a wonderful Jack Russel called Bramble but we lost her at Christmas to an accident. We have lived here for 10 years, moving up from London in 1999. Our village Gilling West is a vibrant friendly place surrounded by beautiful countryside. In February 2006 I planted a small orchard behind the house that is now producing significant quantities of fruit. Most of the wild fruit I use is picked from the hedgerows within sight of the house.
My hedgerow preserves are made from hand picked wild fruit gathered from woodland, fields and hedgerows. The only fruit in this range that are not gathered from the wild are the cooking apples and lemons.
My other preserves are produced mainly using fruit that I have grown in my own orchard or hand picked from a growing number of local gardens orchards and allotments. All other fruit such as lemons, Seville oranges and figs I source from local suppliers who furnish me with top quality fruit and veg (with as few air miles as possible). My main fruit and veg supplier is Carricks of Snape.
Last year I won five prestigious Golds at the Great Taste Awards to add to the two I received in 2008. I then won a one star Gold for my Pleasantly Hot Tomato Chutney and a two star Gold for my Seville Orange and Ginger Marmalade. That was the first year that I had entered any products so I was very pleased to have done so well. I have just opened a twitter account so please follow me as I find my feet in this new tweety world and I report on the new growing and Jaming year.
